Truck insurance

Truck Insurance QLD

Queensland changes the truck insurance conversation in ways other states do not: a genuine cyclone and flood season, enormous distances between depots, and a CTP system that works differently from the rest of the country.

Cover

What Queensland truck operators insurance covers

Cyclone, Flood and Storm Are Live Risks

Trucks parked in a yard during a flood or cyclone are exposed as property, not as vehicles. Where the yard sits relative to known flood levels affects both availability and price, and in some catchments it affects whether cover is offered at all.

Queensland's CTP Sits Separately

Compulsory third party is bought with registration through a licensed insurer and covers personal injury only. It is not property damage and it is not comprehensive cover, and operators moving from interstate regularly assume it does more than it does.

Distance Changes Recovery

A breakdown between Rockhampton and Mount Isa is a different event from one on the Ipswich Motorway. Towing distances, recovery costs and the time to get a truck back on the road all stretch, which is what makes downtime cover matter more here.

Mining, Agriculture and Unsealed Roads

Queensland work routinely runs onto unsealed roads, station tracks and mine sites. Some policies restrict cover off formed roads, so if that is your work it has to be the basis of the quote rather than a detail mentioned later.

Heat and the Refrigerated Load

Ambient temperatures put reefer units under sustained load, and a failure in a Queensland summer spoils a load faster than it would further south. Breakdown cover with a spoilage extension is more valuable here than the premium difference suggests.

Cover, limits and examples shown are general in nature and subject to eligibility, underwriting and the terms of the issued policy.

FAQ

Queensland truck operators insurance questions.

Speak with our team on 1300 080 323.

Is truck insurance different in Queensland?
The products are national, but the risk profile is not. Cyclone and flood exposure, long recovery distances and a state-specific CTP scheme all change what matters. Where the truck is garaged is a bigger rating factor here than in most states.
Does CTP cover damage to my truck in Queensland?
No. CTP is bought with registration and covers personal injury to people hurt in an accident. It does not cover your truck, anyone's property or the freight. Comprehensive motor is a separate policy entirely.
Am I covered for flood damage?
It depends on the policy and heavily on where the truck is kept. Flood is commonly included in comprehensive cover but insurers assess yard location against flood mapping, and some catchments attract restrictions. Give us the yard address rather than a postcode.
Does driving on unsealed roads affect my cover?
It can. Some policies restrict or exclude cover off formed roads, which matters for mining, agricultural and remote work. If a meaningful share of your kilometres is unsealed, say so up front so the policy is written to match.
